Course Assignments/Requirements/Grading/Evaluation

The following is a brief description of the course assignments and their requirements,  with the total possible points awarded indicated in parentheses. Attendance is a component of grading, so please familiarize yourself with the requirements.

Course Assignments & Requirements

These are the requirements for your course assignments. Please make sure to align your personal calendar to the due dates! 

Analysis and Implication Response Papers [TPE 2] Candidates will analyze the ideas in the provided resources and explain the implications of those ideas for your future classroom. Your reflection should be typed (2-3 pages, 12 pt. Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins, double spaced, APA citation format for in-text citations and resource list).
Quizzes [TPE 3,6] Candidates will answer questions based on readings and will include open-ended short answer questions for student input.
Discussion Posts and Responses [TPE 2,6] Candidates will complete discussion posts based on readings and other resources. Please see rubrics in the syllabus to follow expectations for posts and responses. Posts should be completed before the end of the week so that responses can be completed by Fridays at 11:59 p.m.
Lesson Plan Assignment and Video [TPE 1,2,3,4,5,7] Candidates will construct a thorough lesson plan for a grade and subject of your choice that will be taught in the classroom. This template can also be copied and pasted from this link: https://goo.gl/vaKeQ7 (Please make a copy and save to your drive for future use). The lesson plan will be constructed several sections at a time for peer feedback/correction before its final turn-in date. The video observation component will consist of a 15 minute video showing the implementation portion of this lesson (including vocab instruction if applicable, modeling, guided practice, and checking for understanding). You must include a minimum of three identifiable classroom management routines or strategies. You will upload a link for your video to Canvas with the lesson plan (in one submission).
Classroom Management Website - Signature Assignment Watermark [TPE 1,2,3,4,5,6] Candidates will create and maintain a personal website throughout the course using www.weebly.com, www.wix.com , Webador, google sites, or any other website creator you feel comfortable with. The website will be a cumulative project where you will add resources and information as you progress throughout the semester. The website will have an introduction and 8 main components that are required for the website. Each component will be a new tab on your webpage (you will submit your tabs weekly on Canvas). At appropriate points, references must be made to relevant theorists and principles discussed in the course and presented in your readings. You will also have the opportunity to add to and enhance your site however you choose. It is the hope that this website will be utilized throughout your teaching career. Each week that a tab is due, you will submit a link to your website to be viewed and graded. Your final completed webpage will be turned in on Watermark. Management Research and Social Justice Presentation [TPE 1,2,6] Candidates will conduct research, engage in academic discourse in groups, and decide on a research question that addresses a community of students and the issues they may face based on current educational systems and dynamics. In groups, they will do further research and create a presentation describing what the literature states, the implications to teaching, and how to support students.
Experience Reflection Paper [TPE 6] Candidates will submit a reflection (double -spaced, 2-3 pages) that summarizes your thoughts and learning. If you are a teacher of record, you will discuss your personal experiences based on the questions instead of an observation discussion. See Appendix A.

Late assignments will not be accepted for credit. All assignments will be due on the scheduled days unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.  Such arrangements will only be made under extreme or unusual conditions. The final course grade will be calculated using the following percentages:

Attendance Policy

It is the expectation that candidates will cultivate professional attitudes and mannerisms.  Coursework is seen as a prelude to employment where punctuality, courtesy, and full engagement are expected.  For this reason, absences, tardiness, and early class departures will influence the final grade earned in this course.  Each tardy or early class departure will result in a minimum of a 2%-point deduction from the final course grade.  Each absence will result in a 5%-point deduction from the final course grade. If a candidate is absent more than three times, the candidate will receive a failing grade in the course.
